From a total of 20 samples, of which 8 were collected in the eulittoral and 12 by SCUBA diving in the sublittoral, more than 11,000 ostracods were recovered. These comprise 31 species belonging to 21 genera. Of the 31 species, one is a cladocopid, one a platycopid and the remainder podocopids, of which 3 are bairdiids, 3 cyprids and the remainder (21) are cytherids. Only four species have been described from elsewhere (Peripontocypris magnafurcata, Neonesidea tenera, Triebelina bradyi, Dentibythere dentata) although one other (Cytherelloidea keiji), is represented at the island by a new subspecies. However an additional 2 species are known elsewhere in manuscript; both from the nearest inhabited land, the Pitcairn / Henderson group some 1,400 miles to the west. The remaining 24 species/subspecies are endemic to Easter Island and all 27 new taxa are described and illustrated herein. They are: Polycope isolata, Cytherelloidea keiji pasquaensis, Macrocyprina rattrayi, Aglaiocypris cylindratus, Neonesidea supercaudata, Pseudocythere minuscula, Cytheroma aphanes, Semicytherura rapanuiensis, S. cooki, Parakrithella peregrinata, Loxoconchella catarrhopos, Loxocorniculum mayburyae, Loxocaudata? minuscula, Paradoxostoma ballistica, P. carinaspinosa, P. decima, P. mimicus, Quadracythere alloios, Tenedocythere titanikos, Triginglymos nesiotes, Cletocythereis nautes, Xestoleberis tetragonos, X. arotron, X. entrichos, X. insulanos, X. polys, X. kyrtonos.
