For the first time, the non-marine deposits (so-called "Wealden") intercalated in between the Late Jurassic (Tithonian) and Early Cretaceous (Early Aptian) marine sediments in N Somalia are investigated for their microfossil content. Due to the occurrence of the Charophyceae Clavator ampullaceus and early forms of Ascidiella reticulata, their age can now be more precisely given as earliest Aptian. The flora of the Charophyceae is described as is the co-occurring freshwater fauna of Ostracoda (dominated by species of Cypridea). Two ostracod species are described as new: Cypridea ahlmadoensis n. sp. and Cypridea garurensis n. sp.
