Etymology The species is named after the ï¬ctional deity Dagon (also known as Father Dagon), created by the American writer of horror ï¬ction H.P. Lovecraft (1890–1937) and ï¬rstly introduced in the short story “Dagon,†published in 1919. In the pantheon of Lovecraftian cosmic entities, Dagon presides over the Deep Ones, an amphibious humanoid race indigenous to Earth’s oceans. [details]
