Taxonomy Purena Hartlaub, 1907 is senior synonym. Hartlaub did not select a type species, he included in this genus Sarsia strangulata Allman, 1872 (=St. ophiogaster) and Sarsia gemmifera Forbes, 1848 (= St. gemmifera). Whatever type species is chosen, Purena is a senior synonym of Stauridiosarsia Mayer, 1910 (sensu Nawrocki, et al. 2010). However, the genus name Purena has not been in use for more than 100 years.
