Description Colour in life: deep purple above, much paler below (Sloan et al., 1979).
Also distributed in Saipan, New Caledonia (Clark, 1954); Maldive area, Ceylon, bay of Bengal, East Indies, north Australia, Philippine, China, south Japan and South Pacific Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
General distribution: from East Africa to Polynesia (Tortonese, 1980); tropical, Indo-west-central Pacific Ocean, depth range 0-30 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
Ecology: benthic, inshore (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]
