Etymology Named for M. Ch. Alluaud, who collected the specimens [details]Spelling Misspelling of Alluaudella as Alluandella in Day (1967) [details] Synonymy The synonymy of Alluaudella Gravier, 1905 with Odontosyllis Claparède, 1863 was suggested by San Martín & Hutchings (2006) but not established definitely, as the type material of Alluaudella madagascariensis Gravier, 1905, the type species, was not available for examination. The same authors examined the holotype of Alluaudella longicirrata Mohammad, 1973, stating that it was clearly a species of Odontosyllis, without giving further information on possible synonymies. The type material of A. madagascariensis was studied later by Aguado & San Martín (2008), who confirmed and established its synonymy with Odontosyllis. Moreover, Aguado & San Martín (2008: 49-51) also revised the type material of Alluaudella longicirrata (misspelled as A. longocirrata) and discussed its synonymy with Odontosyllis freycinetensis Augener, 1913, citing San Martín & Hutchings (2006) as the source of the synonymy. However in this publication this synonymy is not established nor discussed, for which reason the synonymy between the two species is here considered as having been established by Aguado & San Martín (2008).
