Nomenclature Pocillopora grandis Dana, 1846 is a senior synonym of P. eydouxi Milne Edwards, 1860 (see Gardiner 1897). It therefore has priority, even though Veron & Pichon (1976) and Schmidt-Roach et al. (2014) state that P. eydouxi has preference because it has been more commonly used.
