Biology zooxanthellate [details]Unreviewed
Description This fully meandroid Goniastrea is similar to Platygyra, especially P. lamellosa with which it is easily confused. Like other Goniastrea, but unlike Platygyra, it has conspicuous paliform lobes. Skeletons may also develop fairly extensive coenosteum between series, leading, at the periphery of the coral, to complete gaps between the series. (Sheppard, 1998 <308>)
Colonies are submassive or encrusting, meandroid with sinuous valleys. Columella centres and paliform lobes are well developed. Colour: very variable but commonly a uniform dull green or brown or with walls and valley floors of different dull or bright colours. Abundance: common in shallow or clear water. May be dominant of temperate reefs. (Veron, 1986 <57>) [details]
Type locality "Australia" (Veron, 1986). [details]
