Harmful effect Producer of maitotoxin (MTX-1, MTX5), 44-methylgambierone (Murray et al. 2019; Estevez et al. 2020). The toxin has been shown to accumulate in carnivorous fish tissues such as snapper (Pagrus auratus)(in viscera, liver, muscle) when the fish was fed mullet injected with Gambierdiscus (Kohli et al. 2014) [details]
