Taxonomy Chamberlin (1919: 167) regarded the genus Myrianida Milne-Edwards, 1845 as synonymous with Myriana Savigny, 1822: "Myrianida Milne Edwards (1845) is regarded as synonymous with Myriana Savigny (1820) since the types M. fasciata Milne Edwards and M. longissima Savigny, are one and the same species and identical with Nereis pinnigera Montagu (1808). Nereimyra Blainville is also a synonym of Myriana."
Later Fauvel (1923: 199) considered Myriana longissima Savigny, 1822, the single species in the genus, to be a Phyllodocidae incertae sedis, probably a Phyllodoce: "Myriana longissima Savigny 1820, p.41. La Rochelle. Semble être une Phyllodoce."
Hartman (1959) considered the genus to be valid and to belong to the family Phyllodocidae, but it is not discussed in the revision of the family by Pleijel (1991). The genus remains incertae sedis.
Treadwell (1931) described a second species in the genus from the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, Myriana cirrata, but the species was synonymized with Proceraea cornuta (Agassiz, 1862) by Pettibone (1963: 144). Nygren (2004: 47-49) also accepted this synonymy.
