Etymology Not stated by the author, possibly the species was dedicated to Quatrefages' mother, Louise Marguerite Henriette Camille de Cabanes. [details]

Spelling The original spelling of the species is "margaraticeus", instead of "margaritaceus". Quatrefages (1866) did not explain the etymology of the species, and although it is possible that the intention was to dedicate it to his mother, Louise Marguerite Henriette Camille de Cabanes, in which case the expected stem of the name would have been the more common "Margarit"- instead of the almost unique "Margarat"-, it is uncertain if the used spelling was intentional or not. This way, the original spelling "margaraticeus" should be preserved, while "margaritaceus" should be treated as an unjustified emendation. [details]
