Neotype Williams & Burreson (2005) designate a neotype from their material but largely without the accompanying formal statements required by the ICZN Code. The neotype was "Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington ZW.1532. Host: hagfish (Eptatretus cirrhatus). Locality/collection date: off new wharf, Kaikoura, 27 June 1972." [details]Type specimen Burreson (2020) reports that "The holotype, stated by Richardson (1953) to be in the collection of the Zoology Department, Victoria University College, Wellington, is apparently lost as it was not found in MNZ [Museum of New Zealand]." Victoria University of Wellington has not maintained a type collection for many decades, if it ever did, & the type was probably in Richardson's personal collection (Editor comment). Williams & Burreson (2005) claim there are slide paratypes at MNZ, but this cannot be correct as
Richardson did not designate paratypes in his article. However, the slides were made by Richardson and are labelled as 'co-types'. Williams & Burreson (2005) designate a neotype from their own material. [details]
