Taxonomy 1 specimen, syntype, NHMUK 1897.7.30.91. Measurements 28 mm x 6,2 mm. This appears to be a young specimen of the subsequently examined Turritella illustris Melvill, 1904, which confirms their synonymy. Under high magnification, both type samples show a very fine longitudinal sculpture, which is highly unusual for Turritellidae, and reminds of thickened lips at the end of growth stages, as seen in some Epitoniidae. Similar sculpture has been observed in the type sample of Turritella ferruginea Reeve, 1849. The genus position of this taxon is therefore unclear, pending further research. [details]
