Distribution Eastern Atlantic Ocean: continental shelf of Cameroon. Wide geographic distribution probably is the result from confused records (see 'Editor's comment' below). [details]

Editor's comment Awaiting resolution. Apparent Geographic distribution probably arising from confused records. There are three possible "Scoloplos robustus" as original or recombinations, possible secondary homonyms. This one from Cameroon is not the North American taxon S. robustus (Verrill, 1873) [now in Leitoscoloplos, and is not the South American S. (Leodamas) robustus (Kinberg, 1866) [now in Leodamas] [details]

Etymology Not stated in the original description. The specific epithet robustus is a Latin adjective meaning 'solid', 'firm' or 'robust', and refers presumably to the solid look of the type specimen, stated to have ''un diamètre supérieur [than Scoloplos kerguelensis McIntosh, 1885]'' (Rullier, 1964: 1092), the species stated to be the most similar one and with which teh new species was compared. [details]

Habitat Soft mud, at shelf depths. [details]

Homonymy If Scoloplos (Leodamas) robustus had remained in Scoloplos (it is currently combined as Leodamas robustus), then Scoloplos robustus Rullier would be a junior homonym [details]

Specimen Holotype initially deposited at the Laboratoire de Zoologie, Faculté Libre des Sciences d'Angers, France (Rullier, 1964: 1092), now deposited at the Musée National d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France (Solis-Weiss et al., 2004: S19), under the code MNHN POLY TYPE 829. [details]
