Taxonomy Recorded from New Zealand offshore by Knox, but without details to justify the identification. Knox's Chatham area material needs re-examination. Hartman (1953) redescribed the type series from Magellan, contrasting the species with A. macroura, type locality nearshore New Zealand. Later in the Eltanin report (1967) she split off A. ornatus from her original material, and restricted A. virginis, although it is not clear how the taxa differ. [details]
