Taxonomy The morphological characters used to describe Oncaea frosti Heron, an Atlantic medium-sized form of Oncaea venusta Philippi, appear to be inadequate in view of the great polymorphism known for this ubiquitous species (Böttger-Schnack & Huys, 2004). The respective size range includes two different genetic lineages (Elvers et al. 2006), whose morphological characters still have to be defined. [details]
