More than 600 specimens of Syllidae were sampled during several collection trips to different parts of the Chinese coastline (from North China Sea to South China Sea) in the years 1987, 1991, 1994 and 1995. Most of these are typical meiofaunal species belonging to the subfamily Exogoninae, which are described in this study. The following ten species are new to science: Brania diaphana, Sphaerosyllis qiquani, S. tenuis, S. hutchingsae, S. leptocirrata, S. jungei, Prosphaerosyllis fujianensis, P. hongkongensis, Erinaceusyllis nana, and Parexogone lineata. Insufficient material prevents the description of another new Parexogone species. Salvatoria cf. neapolitana (Goodrich 1930), S. koorineclavata San Martín 2005, Sphaerosyllis hermaphrodita Westheide 1990 and Exogone breviantennata Hartmann-Schröder 1959 are newly reported for the Chinese fauna. The presence of Sphaerosyllis hystrix Claparède 1863, Sphaerosyllis cf. glandulata Perkins 1980, S. cf. piriferopsis Perkins 1980 and Exogone dispar (Webster 1879) is confirmed for the Chinese coast.
