Status Despite the photos of two specimens of this variety the description is still unrecognizable and moreover there were three specimens collected from distant localities, Florida, approx. coord. 26.495915°N 82.725098°W (MCZ PORa-7358) and Southern California, approx. coord. 24.187607°N 110.361339°W (MCZ PORa-7131 and 7188), making it likely that they are not conspecific. I propose to assign them for the time being to the combination Dysidea excavata (Hyatt, 1877) as a taxon inquirendum. [details]
