Recent research on sponges in the reefs of Veracruz suggests that a greater sampling effort is the key to complete the list of species occurring in the reefs of Veracruz. With this work implemented in the reefs of Enmedio, Tanhuijo and Oro Verde during the time periods of April-August 2015 and Abril-June 2016, four new registrations were added to the fauna inventory. First, the range of geographic extension for Vansoestia cf. caribensis, Haliclona (Reniera) aff. chlorilla y de Mycale (Naviculina) diversisigmata is extended to the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico. While Dysidea fragilis was a new registration for the SALT. With these new contributions, it is evident that sponge richness, at least for Veracruz and the Gulf of Mexico, is greater than for other reef invertebrate (e.g. corals and octocorals).
