Type locality North Atlantic Ocean, Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Rainbow vent field (36º08'26''N, 34º00'01''W), 2200 m. According to Sigvaldadóttir & Desbruyères (2003) the holotype was collected during the Ifremer Cruise MARVEL of the submersible 'Nautile', dive PL 1196. According to the data provided by the Ifremer (Cruise MARVEL 1997), the details of this dive are as above. The data of the type locality of Prionospio asaccata as given by Sigvaldadóttir & Desbruyères (2003) seem to be erroneous. They are: "Mid-Atlantic Ridge, 37º17'18''N, 32º16'29''W, 1690 metres (''Tour Eiffel'' site on the Lucky Strike vent field)". [details]
Depth range 1690-3520 m.
