Distribution Distribution: Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Dorsal and anal fin rays bear small spines or bucklers at the base. Abdomen with 8 or 9 spinous plates. A large round black spot encircled by a yellow ring centrally located on the body in some species. Adults with long filaments trailing from about 10 spines. Scales small and rudimentary, if present. Opercular bones without spines or serrae. [details]
