Status Jirkov (2001, 2011, 2026) includes the freshwater/brackish genus Alkmaria under Hypania Ostroumoff, 1897. Jirkov (2001) recorded the species as the new combination Hypania romijni (Horst, 1919). It is unknown if an independent evaluation of this synonymy exists. Alkmaria romijni has usages up to 2015, but seemingly no recent taxonomic reports. UK conservation groups report it as "the Tentacled Lagoon-Worm (Alkmaria romijni)" and regard it as a rare endangered species. Jirkov (2001) treated the recombined species as differing from Hypania invalida. [details]
