Classification Ichthyotomus sanguinarius is a parasite on the fins of Mediterranean Conger eels. There are no other ichthyotomids known and few specimens have been found since Eisig first reported on it. The species is either placed with Eunicida or Phyllodocida. Its monographer Eisig considered it was closely related to Syllidae, and indeed the chaetae seem similar to those of syllids. The jaws appear unique. Rouse & Fauchald (1997) placed it in Phyllodocida. [details]
