Taxonomy The generic location of the species was not clear, for which reason Laubier (1966, 1968) tentatively placed it in the genus Paratyposyllis Hartmann-Schröder, 1962, as Paratyposyllis (?) peresi.
The genus Paratyposyllis was created by Hartmann-Schröder (1962) to include the single species P. paurocirrata, from Chile, and diagnosed it as being very close to Typosyllis, but with only one pair of tentacular cirri and lacking dorsal cirri on chaetiger 2. Paratyposyllis (?) peresi agrees in having a single pair of tentacular cirri, but shows dorsal cirri on chaetiger 2. Other differences would be the presence of an anterior pharyngeal tooth on the genus Paratyposyllis, not observed on P. peresi, and a cylindrical body in the first against a body flattened dorso-ventrally in the second.
Quite probably both taxa were defined with base on specimens incomplete or not fully developed belonging to other genera (Paratyposyllis (?) peresi was described as being very small, 1.3 mm long for 25 chaetigers, and 0.2 mm wide in the middle region of the body).  [details]

From editor or global species database
Depth range 32 m. [details]

Distribution Western Mediterranean Sea: Cap l'Abeille (Banyuls-sur-Mer, France). Considered to be an endemic Mediterranean species.  [details]

Editor's comment Paratyposyllis peresi was described with base on a single and small specimen (1.3 mm long for 25 chaetigers and about 0.2 mm wide in the middle region of the body). The body flattened dorso-ventrally as well as other characters of the species seem to indicate that it is a juvenile specimen not fully developed and/or incomplete belonging to the genus Trypanosyllis Claparède, 1864, probably to Trypanosyllis coeliaca Claparède, 1868.  [details]

Etymology The species is dedicated to Dr. Jean-Marie Pérès (b. Montpellier, 8 October 1915 - d. Marseille, 9 March 1998), director of the Station Marine d'Endoume, Marseille, between 1948-1983, and part of the thesis jury of the author of the species, Lucien Laubier, in 1965.  [details]

Habitat Inside a coralligenous block dredged 32 m depth.  [details]

Publication date Paratyposyllis peresi appears published as a "sp. n." twice: first in the 1966 monographic work by Laubier on the coralligenous of Albères (Laubier, 1966), and two years later in a faunistic and taxonomic paper (Laubier, 1968). In the 1966 paper Laubier makes some considerations about the taxonomic position of the species, its habitat, and explains the etymology. Laubier (1966) also pointed that a morphologic description of the species should be published in the same volume than the monographic work, for which reason the name used in the monograph should be considered as a nomen nudum: "La description morphologique de cette forme étant publiée dans le même fascicle de la même revue que le présent travail, j'ai préféré utiliser ici le nouveau nom d'espèce, qui est, formellement, un nomen nudum" (Laubier, 1966: 251, footnote). The work with the description of the species was published only two years later (Laubier, 1968), for which reason the publication date of the species is 1968, not 1966.  [details]
