Homonymy Unavailable name as junior homonym to Mandane Kinberg, 1866, in Spionida. Kinberg had used the same genus name in an earlier published part of his multi-part article. This second usage must be replaced with the next available name, which used to be Acanthodrilus Perrier, 1872, except that Michaelson (1899: 237) moved Mandane litoralis (one of the three original names in Mandane) to his new genus Chilota as its type species. It is unclear what the type species of Mandane was as it would have to be a subsequent designation. [details]

Type designation Kinberg (1866: 100) created new species Mandane patagonica, M. litoralis, M. stagnalis for new genus Mandane, based on specimens from southern South America. He did not designate a type species. Some authors used to designate the first-named species in the original work as type which would be Mandane patagonica, now in Chilota, along with M. litoralis [details]
