Classification According to Mansel-Pleydell (1898) is P. pectinata Born, 1778 the typespecies of Helcion Montfort, 1810. Altough Born (1778, 1780) referred to P. pectinata described by Linnaeus, 1758, this is uncorrect. The specimen descripted by Linnaeus is in fact a Siphonaria and the specimen described by Born is a primair junior homonym of Linnaeus' P. pectinata en replaced by P. pectunculus Gmelin, 1791. Backeljau has decided to treat P. pectunculus and P. pellucida as two differrent genera, respectivly Helcion and Patina .
