Nomenclature Von Lendenfeld (1915: 153) erected this species with two varieties, var. gracilis and var.robusta, without indicating which of the two varieties is the nominotypical variety. According to the ICZN the name-bearing variety has to have the same name as the species, in this case H.(H.)obtusum obtusum. If the two varieties would have been different at the (sub-)specific level, the renaming would have been mandatory, and one of the two would then to be indicated as the nominotypical variety. However, apparently both varieties are presently considered junior synonyms of the species H. (Onconema) obtusum, see Tabachnick & Menshenina (2002: 1246). Moreover, the varieties were also to be renamed to meet the agreement in gender rule (gracilis would need to named gracile and robusta would need to become robustum. This renaming is also unnecessary in view of the junior synonymy. [details]
