Nomenclature Orginally, Dugès proposed the name Prostoma for this genus, in which quite some time species of what is now Nemertea and Platyhelminthes were placed. Within turbellarian literature, the genus name has disappeared completely, and the genus fell apart in several genera. Moreover, in flatworm taxonomy, Prostoma and Prostomum were used interchangeably for a long time. As a consequence some species were described within Prostoma and later sometimes as Prostomum. These species are now listed under Prostoma, and Prostomum, with the name under Prostomum given as uneccepted. Some species were originally described as Prostomum, and were never referred to as Prostoma. These species are only listed under Prostomum.  [details]
