Taxonomy Reijnen et al. (2010) transferred Simnialena uniplicata to Cyphoma on the basis of DNA sequence data, but did not synonymize Simnialena with Cyphoma as they were uncertain of the identity of the type species Simnialena marferula Cate, 1973. The latter was synonymized with S. uniplicata by Rosenberg et al. (2009). However, the individual of Simnialena uniplicata sequenced by Reijnen et al. appears to be a misidentified juvenile Cyphoma gibbosa. Pending clarification, Simnialena is not treated as a synonym of Cyphoma and uniplicata is retained in Simnialena[details]
