Taxonomy Incertae sedis. Van Soest et al. 2020 indicated that an earlier referral of Spongia fastigiata Pallas to Halichondria was an error (made here in the WPD, but unfortunately adopted by Cardenas et al. 2012: Table 2.10). Pallas' material likely belonged to Siphonochalina tubulosa (Linnaeus, 1759), based on Ehlers' description of Esper's interpretation of Pallas' species. The evidence for this still needs to be presented in forthcoming studies. [details]
