Taxonomy The genus was proposed junior synonym of Hymeniacidon by Erpenbeck and Van Soest 2002). This synonym has been revoked temporarily till the type specimen is located and the previous assignation to Hymeniacidon can be confirmed. This action is also taken to avoid a homonym between Hymeniacidon halichondroides (Thiele, 1898) and the type species of Uritaia (i.e Uritaia halichondroides Burton, 1932).
