Type material Hooper (1996: 421) cites a holotype of this species, BMNH 1898.5.7.39, but the BMNH Specimens Data Portal shows this specimen to be collected from the Trondheim Fjord, Norway. This cannot be the type material as this should be from either Porcupine 1869 Station 51 or 65, both from 'between the North of Scotland and the faroe Islands'. The Data Portal lists Raspailia (Dictyocylindrus) abyssorum Carter as BMNH 1910.1.1.559, but again gives a Norwegian locality (Hardanger Fjord, Norway). So far, the true type specimens have not been identifed. [details]
