Homonymy This is a junior homonym of Spongia lyrata Esper, 1794, which, according to the redescription by Ehlers (1870: 23), confirmed by Topsent (1931: 44) is Auletta lyrata. Lamarck (1814: 382) assumed his material was the same species as Esper's, but Topsent (1931) redescribed this as Siphonochalina lyrata. This name, being based on a junior primary homonym, will need to be replaced. [details]
