Etymology Not stated, but assumed named after the 4 pairs of branchiae. The Ilyphagus octobranchus species name looks formulated as a noun in apposition (for example Octobranchus is a genus of Trichobranchidae), rather than an adjectival form, which might have been octobranchiatus. Two examples of the latter are Pimlicocrinus octobranchiatus and Dichograptus octobranchiatus, both fossils. [details]
