Etymology Not stated by the author. The specific epithet difficilis is a Latin adjective meaning 'difficult' or 'troublesome', and could refer to the presumed difficulty felt by the author in order to assign the type specimen to an already known genus, hence the erection of a new one to contain it. [details]

Status From Hartman (1948: 57): "The single specimen is poorly preserved. The anterior end and proboscis are missing. Setae are those of an epitokous, or pelagic individual. Dorsal cirri are lost and the orientation of parapodial parts cannot be discerned. In view of these uncertainties, it seems desirable to regard both genus and species as indeterminable." Later, Pettibone (1971: 49) added: "The holotype consists of the posterior end of a heteronereid. As indicated earlier by Hartman (1949:57), both the genus and species must be considered indeterminable because of the brevity of the original description, absence of figures, and the poor condition of the holotype."
