Spelling Petaloproctus terricola is the original spelling. The spelling Petaloproctus terricolus was used by Day (1955: 429) and influentially by Fauchald (1977 pink book: 41) but others continued with P. terricola (qv). It is possible to treat the word as terricolus -a -um as a adjective, depending on context, but the majority of usages regard it as the unchanging noun terricola as in Latin dictionaries meaning 'dweller upon earth'. [details]
