Taxonomy Objective synonym. Johnston unknowingly redescribed the holotype of Nereis iricolor Montagu, 1804 collected by Montagu in Devon. He misread the museum label 'iricolor' from the museum collection of Leach (Montagu's friend) as 'tricolor' thus creating a separate species name when he published the label name as 'tricolor' with his own description. His figure 22 shows the parapodia but he mistakenly presents the parapodia upside down. He notes the similarity to Oenone maculata [details]
