Authority In Hartman (1959: 272) catalogue this name is inexplicably attributed to Ehlers (1901: 112), but Ehlers is there recombining Nereilepas variegata Grube, 1857, now Pseudonereis variegata (Grube, 1857), as Nereis variegata. Hartman also states it is a homonym, but the prior Nereis variegata Renier, 1804 is an unavailable name, so the secondary homonymy does not exist. Two other 'variegata' nereidids have never been combined in genus Nereis. Authorship of this species combination corrected in WoRMS 20/05/2019 to be Grube (1857) [details]Taxonomy Superseded subsequent combination, valid as Pseudonereis variegata (Grube) [details]
