Nomenclature Not Polychaeta. This Record arises from Hartman (Catalogue, 1959:545), who included the name Fucus maritimus as a polychaete species, with authority cited as "Ellis in McIntosh, 1922" and she referred the species to Sabella penicillus, following McIntosh. However, McIntosh's mention of this species (the genus Fucus is an alga) in a synonymy is simply an error. Ellis described his species as a coralline plant - as the plate confirms to us. See Ellis 1755. [details]
