Identification Deshayes (1833) synonymized Purpura lassaignei Basterot, 1825, a Miocene fossil from the Aquitaine Basin, with Purpura edwardsii Payraudeau, 1826, and used the former name for the Recent species on the grounds of priority. This synonymy is yet to be reassesed.  [details]
