Nomenclature The species name was not accompanied by a description of type material in 1932, but in 1942. Therefore it became a junior homonym of Caryophyllia compressa (Lamarck, 1816) and of Caryophyllia compressa Gardiner & Waugh, 1938, and was redecribed as C. zanzibarensis (Zou, 1984) [details]
