Nomenclature Hartman (1944, 1965) erected two family names based on the two genera, where one genus, Longosoma, was discovered to be a subjective synonym of the other, Heterospio. However, in the 1965 paper she made the 1944 Longosomidae a synonym of the 1965 Heterospionidae, a new family. This priority reversal of a family name cannot be done, and Longosomidae (as Longosomatidae), as the older name, is the valid name. [details]
