Etymology The etymology is somewhat convoluted but Blainville (1828: 439) evidently derived Fabricia (although it has a feminine suffix) from Otto Fabricius whose name had been used (in the same feminine form) for Tubularia fabricia Müller, 1776, a junior synonym of Tubularia stellaris, the type species of Fabricia. Fabricius was a contemporary of Müller and authored Fauna Groenlandica. [details]

Grammatical gender Although derived from Fabricius (male name) the genus Fabricia is feminine. Blainvillle probably got the name from its use as a species-group name 'fabricia' which was agreeing with its genus of Tubularia. Authors have consistently created feminine adjectival names for Fabricia species since. [details]

Homonymy Fabricia Blainville, 1828 is the most senior of several (4) homonyms using Fabricia as a genus name. The next in seniority is Fabricia Latreille, 1829 in Diptera (according to Neave's Nomenclator Zoologicus) [details]

Type species Tubularia stellaris Müller, 1774. However, Fauchald, 1977 incorrectly has the type species as Amphicora sabella Ehrenberg 1837. See the taxonomic history in Fitzhugh (1990). [details]
