Host fecundityand parasitegrowthand developmentwereassessedin female Cyclopsbicuspidatusthomasiexperimentally infectedwith proceroids of Triaenophoruscrassus.Copepods weregivendaily rations of Parameciumcaudatum, from zero perday to ad lib. Host fecundityand proceroidgrowth weresignificantlyreduced at lowerratesofhostfeeding, but no directeffectsof parasitepresenceon hostfecundityweredetected.Proceroidgrowthwas nutrient-limited but someproceroidgrowth occurredin copepods with no foodintake.More proceroids weredifferentiatedwithin 10 days in hostsfed fouror more Parameciumper day than in hostsfed fewer. The resultsindicatethata knowledgeofhostfoodintakeis requiredforevaluationof the effectsoflarvalcestodeson theircrustaceanintermediate hosts.
