AB - In Latnjajaure, an ultra-oligotrophic mountain lake in Swedish Lapland, Cyclops scutifer is always present in considerable numbers. During a developing time of 3 years from egg to adult, losses remain low. High survival rates may be explained by lack of predators, even if there is selfcontrol by cannibalism. Temperature, not food supply, appears to be the most important growth steering factor. During more than 9 months of winter, the population is accumulated in water layers below 15 m depth. After the ice-break (July), the adults display diurnal vertical migration, and the distribution pattern in the lake appears extremely patchy. Food search and mating advantages are possible reasons for this behaviour
