Undine Giesbrecht 1892 referred Dana's type species to the genus Calanus and distributed the other species among 3 additional genera. There may be a question whether Dana's genus entirely disappears, but the name he chose for it was used by Gould for a gens of birds in 1836, by Munsterberg for a fish genus in 1842 and by Gistel for anther fish genus in 1848
