"Capart (1956) listed in tabular form the differences between the six then known African species of Lamproglena, but no key has yet been published. The following key enables the ten African species now known to be identified. L. aubentoni Dollfus 1960 is regarded as a synonym of L. hemprichii Nordmann 1832. Dollfus separates his material from L. hemprichii on the basis of three characters. One of these is size, which is unreliable in this genus, and in fact the length of his specimens falls within the recorded range of L. hemprichii. He also refers to differences in proportions, but these likewise show much individual variation and are unreliable as diagnostic features. In Dollfus's material the first two thoracic somites were narrow and somewhat attenuated, but this is not sufficient to merit the erection of a new species. Fortunately Dollfus gives good illustrations. Comparison of these with those of L. hemprichii given by Zimmermann (1923) reveals only trivial differences. Thus Dollfus shows no minute spinules on the furcal rami. I have examined specimens of L. hemprichii from West Africa and find that in some these spinules are almost imperceptible and are never as distinct as shown by Zimmermann. In my West African material the second thoracic somite is as expanded as, or more expanded than, was Zimmermann's material from the Nile."
