Taxonomic remark In the original description Lilljeborg wrote: " Among the varying forms of the same species [varius], I have been able to distinguish three, which I described in my public lectures on these powerful animals in 1881 as separate species, under the names given below, but which, according to what I have subsequently learned, appear to overlap each other, and which I have therefore only included as forms or varieties of one species, although some of them may possibly prove to be distinct species upon more thorough investigation." The short species diagnosis written in Latin lists characters that are shared by several Eucyclops species. Cyclops varius varius has not been delineated /defined in the original description.
The name Cyclops varius LiIljeborg, 1901 partly refers to E. speratus Lilljeborg and partly refers to E. serrulatus Fischer, it is not a valid name. [details]
