Taxonomic remark It was originally proposed by Kiefer (1929) as Mesocyclops leuckarti equatorialis forma micrura. The name was still in use by 1972 (Kiefer, 1952; Dussart, 1972). In 1981, Kiefer said that this form was "dropped" and the context seems to mean that he published this decision in this 1981 paper..
(However, Van de Velde (1984) still used the name -- without any comment.)

p. 101: "Special mention should be made of specimen no. 268. It contains animals of two different body sizes (Fig. 151 c, d). It has also been shown that the larger of these specimens have relatively longer furcal branches, which, with a length-to-width ratio of slightly over 3:1, can actually be considered "normal," whereas the smaller animals, with a relative length of their furcal branches of approximately 2.3-2.6:1, are more similar to those I have reported from several East African localities and named as Mesocyclops leuckarti equatorialis forma micrura. I am currently unable to assess the significance of this phenomenon. I will therefore limit myself to simply recording this fact here."

pp. 155-156: "Although the RS [receptaculum seminis] of none of these 24 taxa is known precisely, several of them can be reliably identified due to special circumstances. This applies primarily to the species and subspecies I myself established, of which syntypical specimens are still present in my collection and could be examined more closely. Afterwards, the species annae and tobae were confirmed, the subspecies aequatorialis and pilosus moved to the species rank, while forma micrura was dropped."
