Type designation Lectotype designated by Chávez-López et al (2025) as SMNH Type 5108. They comment "Holthe (1986: 50) recognized two lots of A. gracilis in the SMNH as types, which although not labeled as such, had been identified by Malmgren and collected by Loven and Ljungman in Bohuslän as detailed by Malmgren (1866: 365). The two syntype lots (SMNH Type 5107, 5108) contained seven specimens in total, including two Ampharete specimens (one in each lot). The five syntypes of A. gracilis match Malmgren’s descriptions. The illustration of A. gracilis by Malmgren (1866, pl. 26, fig. 75) appears to be based on SMNH Type 9916, which has fully intact branchiae and partially everted tentacles (Fig. 3H–I). However, since it is an incomplete specimen, the best-preserved specimen (SMNH Type 5108) is herein designated as the lectotype of A. gracilis to fix the definition of the species name and to avoid future confusion with non-conspecific specimens in the syntype lots (IZCN 1999 Art. 74.7).
